Wasit Wetland Centre is a Ramsar listed nature reserve in Sharjah, home to close to 200 species of resident and migratory birds. Once a wasteland, the 86 hectare site was transformed into a protected wetland habitat and now features a visitor centre with a soundproofed viewing gallery, multiple bird hides, and interactive educational activities for children.
Get up close with the birds in one of the site's hides, take a guided golf buggy tour around the dunes, salt flats, and lagoons, and keep an eye out for the endangered Arabian Oryx roaming the reserve. The centre also has an on site cafe and souvenir shop, making it easy to spend a full morning or afternoon exploring with the family.
In 2019, Wasit Wetland Centre won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, one of the first projects in the UAE to be shortlisted for the honor.
Opening hours are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am to 6.30pm. The centre is closed on Tuesdays. On Fridays, opening hours are shorter, from 2pm to 6pm.
Entry tickets are AED 15 for adults. Children under 12 years old enter free.
