The Lucy Maud Montgomery Children's Garden of the Senses is a sensory garden in Norval, Ontario. The garden is dedicated to the famous Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. It's an interactive garden for children of all ages and abilities. The garden encourages people to use their senses to discover the beauty of nature. The garden has sound components like plants, bells, wind chimes, water features, and birds. It also has gardening and plant care, which can help children develop gross and fine motor skills. ----- PROGRAMS ----- - As part of the Garden initiative, the Association provides educational and therapeutic Garden Programs to the community which are held in the Garden during the summer months and that focus on children, older adults, and people with special needs. - Their dedicated programming and activity area for children, used in our Garden Programs, is a play-based learning environment that focuses on physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. - The Garden features 10 sensory gardens. Each sensory garden has been designed to stimulate one (or two) of the human senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch, through the careful selection of plants and other landscape elements that elicit the desired sensory responses. - In the Garden Programs, the children explore the sensory gardens including the Woodland Garden and Waterfall Garden using the 5 senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch, learn about the Edible Garden and taste some of the plants, pot up their own bean seeds to take home, become soil or bug detectives, role-play designing and building their own garden as a team, play a challenge game tracing food products back to their plant sources (older children), and enjoy individual playtime in the nature play activity area. - Programs run June through September (weather permitting)., Summer camps ------- GARDEN FEATURES ------ - Sensory Gardens - Wheelchair Accessible Walkways & Trails - Decorative Benches & Sitting Areas - Picnic Tables & Umbrellas - Cascading Waterfall, Dry Creek Bed & Log Bridge - Large Gazebo for Shelter - Totem Poles - Rainy Day Activities - Mature Trees for Shade - Reclaimed Historic School Bell - World-renowned Interactive Analemmatic Sundial - Braille Signage - Bronze Statues of Children & Animals - Balancing Log - Planter Boxes for Garden Programs - Places to Dig & Explore - Children’s Gardening Tools - Checkerboard Log Table & Stools - Horseshoe Reading Rocks for Storytime - Hopscotch Stepping Stones - Palisade Wall with Bird Houses - Wheelchair Accessible Sandbox
